Barn Owl Detective: Lady Eleanor Bones’s First Mystery

Introducing Lady Eleanor Bones and her first adventure helping Sherlock Bones
The moon was just rising over the golden fields near the Prairie Research Institute when Sherlock Bones picked up the trail of a strange case — missing field notebooks. But this time, he wasn’t alone.

I’m Lady Eleanor Bones — small for a barn owl but quick as the wind, with mottled feathers the color of wheat and marsh reeds. My round amber eyes miss nothing, and my ears can catch the whisper of wings from across the prairie. Fresh in from the coastal marshlands, I’ve brought my trusty field journal, a sharp mind for patterns, and a curiosity that rarely lets me rest.

Owl pellets, tiny footprints, and a sudden spike in beetle remains… every change in the landscape tells a story. Together, Sherlock and I traced the clues across the fields, following the faint scent of rain until we found the missing notebooks — safe and sound in the care of a well-meaning volunteer who had hidden them to keep them dry.

And here’s the twist — this volunteer turned out to be Madeleine, now happily teaching young minds in a nearby classroom, solving her own mysteries every day.

Barn owls like us help keep the prairies healthy without chemicals, balancing nature’s delicate web. Tonight, take a look around… you might be surprised what mysteries are waiting for you to solve.
