Collected in the wild and professionally heat-treated for safe classroom use.
• Illustrated “Habitat, Habits, & Prey” Teaching Booklet
Clear, step-by-step excavation guidance plus a graphic explanation of what an owl pellet is and how it forms inside the owl's digestive system.
• Excavation Tools
Precision pick-and-forceps for careful bone recovery and identification.
• Resealable Storage Pouch
The same durable pouch your kit arrives in doubles as secure storage for recovered bones and findings.
Available in 3 Sizes
Choose the experience that fits your learning goals:
• Economy Experience / Small (1.0" – 1.49")
• Standard Experience / Medium (1.5" – 2.49")
• Premium Experience / Large (2.5"+)
Larger pellets typically contain more material and may yield a greater variety of identifiable bones, making them ideal for deeper analysis and extended study.
What Students Actually Do
Instead of memorizing food webs, learners uncover them.
As owls consume prey whole, indigestible material such as fur and bones is compressed into a pellet inside the gizzard. After digestion, the pellet is regurgitated, creating a compact biological record of the owl's last meal.
Inside each pellet, students may discover skulls, jawbones, vertebrae, ribs, and limb bones from small mammals. Each fragment becomes data. Each bone becomes evidence.
It's anatomy, ecology, and predator-prey relationships in one small, powerful package.
Designed for Real Learning

• Nature-curious adults who aren't afraid of a bit of fur
From the pouch to the pick to the preserved bones, everything you need is included. Open it. Explore it. Store your discoveries. Repeat.
Science doesn't need to be complicated. It just needs to be real.
I initially experienced an issue when the original order said it had been delivered but had not been. The process to fix this was easy and communication could not have been more kind! Once I got the order, everything we needed was included to make the class experiment go well. I used some of the online materials and directed parents to other online resources. Our school will definitely be ordering from here again!
My child loved this. We found 3 skulls inside!
Bought these for my husband, very interesting.
We had a lot of fun figuring out what the owl had eaten.
This was a great science experiment! The pamphlets were so helpful and we found so many skulls!
Sterilized barn owl pellets from Owl Brand Supply Company and Discovery Kits come in three sizes and from two regions of the United States, including SW US and NW US.
Here are the size ranges for both regions, which are also described in each product detail. The general rule of thumb is, the larger the pellet, the more prey there are in it.
Please note, we cannot make any guarantee of what is inside the pellet. Only you can do that when you dissect it!
